An 18-month-old baby was among the seven deaths reported on Tuesday (2) increasing the country’s death toll from the virus to 330, the Government Information Department said.
According to the Director General (Health Services) the infant had suffered from COVID-triggered pneumonia and passed away at the Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital.
A 67-year-old female from Weligama, an 82-year-old female from Colombo 15, a 73-year-old female from Wattegama, an 80-year-old female from Nittambuwa, a 77-year-old male from Gelioya and a 32-year-old male from Ragama were the others who died from COVID-related pneumonia and other complications on Tuesday.
About 65,000 persons have been tested positive for the virus from the second wave with about 800 cases being reported on a daily basis. Yesterday 715 persons were tested positive for COVID-19 while Monday (1) recorded 816 positive cases.
