The Wildlife Department and the Police have opened an investigation into the killing of a tusker inside the Yala National Park.
The elephant was shot dead near the Samurdhi Wewa close to Kataragama and the tusks of the animal have been removed.
Wildlife Veterinarian Dr. W. A. Dharmakeerthi carried out the postmortem on Sunday (15) and it was revealed that a gun shot from the front of the animal had caused the death.
