To fulfill the requirement for the upcoming festive season and the New Year, Litro Gas Lanka has ordered 34,000 metric tonnes (MT) of liquid petroleum (LP) gas consignment, Litro Gas Chairman Muditha Peiris said.
He said that the company had anticipated a large demand for LP gas in December and had placed the appropriate orders in November.
"The specific consignment is sufficient to meet the demand for December and the beginning of January. For the festive season, there will be sufficient LP gas, he assured.
Meanwhile, the gas dealers claimed that there was a shortage of cooking gas on the market and that their orders from a week earlier had not been received.
Responding to the allegations, Mr. Peiris stated that although there had been some issues with the issuing procedure, the company has started issuing cooking gas cylinders as of this morning.
"We intend to distribute more than 100,000 LP gas cylinders daily, and we have already begun issuing gas cylinders as of this morning. The issuance process will continue tomorrow as well, he said.
Mr. Peiris said that the company plans to distribute at least 117,000 domestic gas cylinders (12.5kg gas cylinders) today. He added that unloading gas from the 3m740 MT of LP gas consignment is currently taking place.
