A young Sri Lankan man is reported to have been living in a garbage dump in Oman for six months.
Becoming a victim of a group of overseas labour traffickers, Pulasthi Chanaka, a resident of Horana area, was sent to work in Oman on tourist visa after a payment of Rs. 1 million.
He said that he was taken to Oman and left stranded together with several other young men. He further revealed that many Sri Lankan youths who were trafficked are suffering in various parts of the country as they were sent to Oman with forged documents and visas.
Pulasthi, despite informing the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Oman, has not received any relief yet and is in dire need of assistance after months without a grain of rice to satiate his hunger.

The Government today tabled in the House the Report of the Commission to Inquiry into the Establishment and Maintenance of Unlawful Places of Detention and Torture Chambers in the Batalanda Housing Scheme.
