The specified Maximum Retail Price (MRP) imposed on eggs will be scrapped with effect from midnight today (July 25) revoking the gazette notification issued early in the year, as per the Ministry of Trade, Commerce and Food Security.
Minister of Trade, Commerce and Food Security Nalin Fernando made the comment whilst referring to the directives issued on selling eggs imported from India for Rs. 35 in all Lanka Sathosa outlets.
Another gazette was released in April implementing the sale of eggs by weight where a kilogram of white eggs was set to a MRP of Rs. 880 while brown eggs were fixed at a MRP of Rs. 920 per kilogram in line with the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA).
