A man accused of defrauding around Rs. 1.8 bn through a pyramid scheme was arrested today at the Bandaranaike International Airport , Police said.
He was returning from Malaysia.
He had fled the country a year ago.
His wife, who had arrived at the BIA to receive him also was arrested.
The fraudster arrested was identified as Dhammika Kumara Ranasinghe, 52 who operated the Pyramid scheme from Kurunegala while his wife was identified as Surangani Hemachandra,42.
Ranasinghe had evaded appearing in courts.

A Sri Lankan man was apprehended at Suvarnabhumi airport for attempting to smuggle wildlife out of the country after three ball pythons were found hidden in his underwear, the Bangkok post reported.
