A man transporting a bag containing stones similar to gemstones and soil believed to be taken from a gem mine was arrested in the Mundalama area by the Police.
The arrest was made on suspicion that the man was involved in illegal gem-mining activities.
The bag containing what is believed to be the gem stones and soil has been detained along with the vehicle used to transport them.
The detection was made in the Keeriyankalli area on the Puttalam-Colombo road.
Police investigations are underway.
