A 40-year-old resident of Dharga Town in Aluthgama has been taken into custody by the Aluthgama Police after a video emerged of him leaving a supermarket premises pushing a wheelbarrow filled with goods, while not wearing a facemask.
Police Spokesman Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Ajith Rohana said the suspect was taken into custody for violating quarantine rules and regulations. He has been brought to the Aluthgama Police and further investigations are ongoing.
Charges against the suspect will be filed in court under the Quarantine and Prevention of Disease Ordinance, DIG Rohana added.
Several individuals were spotted coming with wheelbarrows to purchase goods from shops today after the Government declared that the public will not be allowed to come in vehicles to purchase goods. Members of the public were urged to go to the shops nearest to their homes to purchase goods.
