The Minister of Power and Energy, Kanchana Wijesekera said that action would be taken against the fuel shed owners who did not place orders from May 27 to 31, 2023 in view of the fuel price review.
He added that Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) is also reviewing data of fuel orders placed & stocks maintained of all fuel stations in the past week.
The Minister added. Initial reports have identified that 121 Fuel stations have not placed any orders between 27to 31 May while many other fuel stations have not placed adequate orders to maintain minimum stocks.
Mr Wijesekera assured that CPC and LIOC (a subsidiary of Indian Oil Corporation) are continuing to distribute fuel island wide. He said therefore there will be sufficient fuel stocks available in all Fuel stations by Sunday.
He pointed out that CPC fuel stations are required to maintain a minimum stock of fifty percent therefore the fuel stations which had not ordered new stocks have violated the conditions of their contracts, as a result will be terminated after reviewing.
