An Indian national was arrested for sexually assaulting a minor on a Sri Lankan airlines flight earlier this morning.
The offender travelling from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia was handed by the crew over to the Airport Police.
He was identified as a 49-year-old carpenter who was a transit passenger arriving at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in order to return to India.
The victim is an eight-year-old girl who was travelling with her mother and sister who were returning home from visiting her father who works in a middle-eastern country.
A complaint was lodged to the flight crew by the mother who then took measures to hand over the suspect to the police.
The victim was taken to the General Hospital in Negombo to conduct medical examinations.
According to a spokesperson of the Airport Police, the Indian national will be presented to the Colombo Magistrate's Court.
Further investigations are being carried out by the Airport Police.
