Police shot dead a suspect wanted for a murder case in Hanwella today morning after he allegedly tried to open fire at the team trying to arrest him.
The suspect was wanted for the murder committed on December 18 in which restaurant owner was shot at point-blank range inside his business premises in Hanwella town.
Two armed men on a motorcycle had visited the premises and one of them opened fire at the owner of the shop using a pistol. The incident was captured on CCTV.
Police claimed that when they tried to arrest the suspect at Dideniya, he opened fire at the Police prompting them to return fire.
The suspect shot dead was 32 years of age and a resident of Udakarawita in the Delwala police area.
The weapon used by the suspect also has been recovered.
