The Jathika Jana Balawegaya (NPP) have secured six of the eight local council results announced so far.
The NPP has won the Hambantota Municipal council and the Tangalle, Ambalangoda, Balangoda Wattegama and Hikkaduwa Urban Councils.
The Haputale Urban Council was secured by an independent group while the Manthai Pradeshiya Sabahwa of the Mullaitivu district was won by the Illankai Thamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK).
So far of the councils where the NPP won, they have not secured 50 per cent of the vote.
