Following adverse weather conditions prevailing in several parts of the island, the Sri Lanka Navy has mobilized its flood relief teams in Balakawala area of Athuraliya in the Matara district since December 12. Standing with flood victims, teams are providing much-needed assistance to those affected communities as of now, the Navy said in a press release.
Due to the flood situation in the Balakawala area since 12th December, caused by the overflowing of the Nilwala River, the Navy teams are using dinghies to offer crucial transportation to people struggling to meet their everyday needs.
Moreover, the Navy stands prepared to deploy additional relief teams and assist those potentially impacted by the anticipated flooding from the adverse weather conditions, it further added.
