Newly elected President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in an address to the nation soon after taking oaths reinforced his commitment to democracy.
He praised the commitment of all political leaders including outgoing President Ranil Wickremesinghe for ensuring a smooth transfer of power.
“I am not a magician. I am a citizen of this country and there are things that I know and things I don’t know. I hope to gather the experience of others and build this country. I expect the support of everyone to overcome the challenges faced by the country.
“We cannot work in isolation as a country and will maintain our international relations.”
“I am aware there are people who are not part of the mandate given you me. My wish is to build faith in me among all citizens.”
