Despite the recent revision in fuel costs, the National Transport Commission (NTC) has declared that bus fares will not be raised.
However, private bus owners’ associations have urged for immediate increase in bus fares due to the persistent rise in fuel prices.
Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association (LPBOA) is set to increase bus fares within the next two weeks, according to its President Gemunu Wijeratne.
All-Ceylon School Children Transport Association has not yet decided on fare increase, but the All-Ceylon Inter-Provincial School Children Transport Services Association suggests its necessity due to fuel price hikes and VAT.
Meanwhile, All-Island Three-Wheeler Drivers’ Association, however, added that despite the hike in fuel prices, three-wheeler charges will remain unchanged.
Fuel price changes were put into effect by Sinopec, Lanka IOC, and Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CEYPETCO) as of midnight on January 31.
