The Presidential and Parliamentary elections will be definitely held next year, President Ranil Wickremesinghe told Parliament short while ago.
“There are no plans to postpone both the Presidential and Parliamentary elections and will be held next year. The Provincial Council and Pradeshiya Sabha elections can be held in 2025,” he said.
Addressing the House, the President thanked those voted for and against the second reading of the Appropriation Bill that was passed by a majority of 45 votes on Tuesday.
He said the present government has established democracy making way for the judiciary to be able to take action against the rulers.
The President said it has been three months since the passing of the Anti Corruption Act, but still the names of the Commissioners have not been finalised.
“The public pay us not to act but to make laws,” he said.

An interim order prohibiting Deshabandu Tennakoon from carrying out his duties as Inspector General of Police (IGP) has been issued by the Supreme Court.
