Following a meeting held today with Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) on the prevailing power cut schedule during the period of the Advanced Level Examinations, all necessary stakeholders including Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) agreed to provide uninterrupted power supply during the examination period until February 17, the Commission said.
The move came after HRCSL wrote to the Secretary of the Ministry of Power and Energy and the Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka, to instruct the CEB to refrain from scheduling power cuts at any time during the period of the Advanced Level Examinations, from January 23 till February 17.
Citing delays in coal shipment arrivals and increasing power demand, CEB management earlier announced that it will be difficult for the national power provider to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the exam period.
