The Excise Department had carried out over 31,342 arrests Island wide from the month of January to November.
Accordingly, 25,024 arrests were conducted under the provisions under the excise act while 4,881 arrests were conducted according to Dangerous drugs act. They said that apart from that they also carried out another 1,437 arrests were made under the National Authority on Tobacco and Alcohol Act.
A senior official of the Excise department told the times online that the highest number of arrests have been done for persons who have been possessing, selling and transporting illicitly brewed sprits, accordingly 16,000 persons were arrested
