A Public Health Inspector was shot dead at his residence in Elpitiya, Pathiraja Mawatha by a gunman , Police said today.
The gunmen had come on a motorbike.
The PHI was identified as Mr Roshan Kumara.
He was about to take his child to school when the gunman entered the house and shot him dead.
Residents said he was known to be a strict officer and had been involved several raids recently in checking an illegal slaughter house in Elpitiya and a supper market.
The reason for the shooting was not known immediately.
