The Public Service Commission (PSC) has issued a directive stating that any public official’s failure to report for work for more than five consecutive days without notice must receive a notice of termination within five days following their absence.
This measure comes after it was noted that, in some instances, issuing termination notices for unreported absences has taken over a year.
The PSC has communicated this directive through a circular to all ministry secretaries and department heads.
The circular also specifies that any explanations or excuses provided in response to a resignation notice must comply with Section 216 of the PSC Procedural Rules.
The concerned disciplinary authority’s decision, along with any submitted explanations, must be formally communicated to the officer in writing.
Additionally, the PSC requires that officials promoted to the special grade of the Country Wide Services must assume their new roles within 22 working days of receiving their appointment letter.
Failure to report for duty within a month will result in the cancellation of the special grade promotion.
