Parliamentary Secretary General Kushani Rohanadeera has officially informed the Election Commission that former Environment Minister Naseer Ahamed’s seat is currently vacant.
Naseer Ahamed lost his seat following a landmark ruling by the Supreme Court validating his expulsion from the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress.
The SLMC decided to suspend his party membership after he joined the government last year and was offered a ministerial portfolio. The former Minister submitted a FR petition contesting the suspension.
SLMC is to nominate its Vice President Ali Zahir Mowlana to fill the vacant parliamentary seat.
