The Parliamentary Council (PC) has approved the appointment of a new five-member Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL).
The names were approved by a majority of the PC's members when it held its 6th meeting under the patronage of Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena today.
Accordingly, Janaka Ratnayake will serve as the new PUCSL Chairman. The other members of the new PUCSL are Chathurika Wijesinghe, Mohan Samaranayake, Udeni Wickramasinghe and Prof. Janaka Ekanayake, Parliament's Communications Department stated.
Members to the PUCSL are appointed in terms of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka Act, No. 35 of 2002.
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa, Minister of Fisheries Douglas Devananda and MP Kabir Hashim along with the Secretary General of Parliament Dammika Dasanayake were present at today's PC meeting.
