All doors leading into the Parliamentary Chamber were opened for the first time in Parliament history today while a debate was in progress.
The decision to open all doors leading to the Chamber was made to provide as much ventilation as possible into the Air Conditioned Parliamentary Chamber as a precaution to minimise the spread of COVID-19, Parliament's Serjeant-at-Arms Narendra Fernando stated.
The decision to open all doors leading into the Chamber was taken with the permission of Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena and Secretary General Dhammika Dassanayake, Mr Fernando stated. However, he stressed that all security precautions have been taken when keeping the Chamber doors open.
