Postal voting commencing today

The postal voting for the Presidential election 2024 commenced today, with 712,319 state sector employees eligible to cast their votes.

Postal voting is underway in over 1500 postal voting centers situated island wide from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm.

The voting took place today District secretary offices, election offices, and police stations across the country.

The election commission allocated September 04 to 6 for government and military personnel to vote.  

 September 11 and 12 have been allocated to the persons who were unable to cast vote during the main period.

The most number of postal voters are from Kurunegala District, with 76,997 voters due to cast voters.

One of the main election observing groups People's Action for Free and Fair Elections (Paffrel) had deployed over 900 election monitors.

 Over 55,000 police officers had been deployed to provide security for polling centers.
