President Ranil Wickremesinghe departed on a two-day visit to India a short while ago.
As the president was accompanied by the secretary Saman Ekanayake during his official visit to India, Ms Chandani Wijewardena was appointed as acting Acting President’s Secretary, until the return of the president.
The president had accepted the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take part in an event to mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
President Wickremeinsinghe is scheduled to meet Indian President Droupadi Murmu and hold discussions with Prime Minister Modi. There would also be other meetings held with Indian dignitaries during his visit to enhance bilateral relations and explore mutual interests.
