President Ranil Wickramasinghe who is currently on an official visit to Japan, met with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida yesterday(25) at Tokyo, Japan said the President Media Division.
President Wickremesinghe apologized to the Japanese government for the halting of the Colombo Light Rail Transit (LRT) project.
During the meeting, it was discussed on the new opportunities to enhance the cooperation between Sri Lanka and Japan. Also, the President emphasized the need for future legislation in the Parliament to ensure that bilateral large-scale projects cannot be halted or cancelled without the agreement of both parties.
Furthermore, President Ranil Wickremesinghe met with Japanese Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki to discuss Sri Lanka’s debt restructuring and the International Monetary Fund’s program and discussed on how to strengthen the long-term bilateral relations between the two countries.
Later, the President also met with Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong in Tokyo on the same day (25), which led to a discussion of the Implementation of the Singapore Free-trade agreement.
