President Ranil Wickremesinghe today said that he will not allow a new “Aragalaya” with the aim of changing the government.
President Wickremesinghe speaking in Parliament warned that the military and armed forces will be deployed and a state of emergency will also be declared in the event of such actions by the protesters without a permit given by the police.
“Go to the police, get a permit and go to the roads and protest as you want,” The president said that protesters can protest with a permission from the police.
A protest without a permit will be stopped and the Police have been instructed.
President Wickremesinghe stated he will not dissolve the Parliament just to hold an election.
He also said as the nation is currently facing several economic issues, an election was not a priority, and can be held after resolving the issues prevailing in the country.
“Many people in the country are now fed up with elections and politics. Every political party, including the SJB and the ruling party, still consists of the same members. The youth of the nation are expecting new faces,” he said
“The land issues is not only confined in north, its in most part of the countries,” President said that when he was in vavuniya few day back, the questions regarding the land issues was discussed.
Regarding the ethnic issues, the president has asked Mp M.A Sumanthiran (TNA) and other MPs from the opposition to get together and solve the issue.
MP Sumanthiran also said that he is looking forward to a meeting being called with all the political parties after the budget session is over. This is after President Wickremesinghe promised that once the budget sessions are over on December 8, he would call for a meeting.
