The subjects of the new ministries have been announced under an extraordinary gazette notification dated May 25 and published on Tuesday, with 42 key institutions coming under President Gotabaya Rajapaksa
The Board of Investment, Sri Lanka Telecom and the Port City Economic Commission were the 42 state institutions which have been placed with the Ministry of Defence coming under the purview of the President.
The three armed forces - Army, Navy, Air Force and the Police as well as the Information and Communication Technology Agency, Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka, and Disaster Management related institutions have been placed under the President, who is the Defence Minister.
57 state institutions have been brought under Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe which includes the Treasury, Customs, Excise, Central Bank and the Securities and Exchange Commission. (Bandula)
