President Ranil Wickremesinghe will declare open the ‘Buddha Rashmi Vesak zone’ at the Presidential Secretariat today at 6.00 P.m.
The Vesak Zone will be open for the public on May 23, 24 and 25th.
President Wickremesinghe has released a message underscoring the spiritual and unifying essence of the occasion.
In his Vesak message, President Wickremesinghe highlighted the deep devotion with which Sri Lankan Buddhists, along with their global counterparts, observe this sacred day. He emphasized the importance of engaging in religious observances and venerating the Buddha with fervor during this period.
Acknowledging the challenging times faced by the nation, President Wickremesinghe called for the same zeal for enlightenment that the Buddha exemplified. He invoked the Buddha’s sermon on sacrificing today for a better tomorrow, urging citizens to cultivate a spirit of selflessness and dedication to national progress.
Reflecting on the teachings of Lord Buddha, the President reminded everyone of the need to treat each other with equality and respect. He stressed that this practice of compassion and fairness is the greatest offering that can be made to the Buddha on Vesak day. Regardless of race, religion, caste, or political affiliation, he called for unity in the efforts to heal and rebuild the country.
