President Anura Kumara Dissanayake urged the opposition to refrain from making public comments that would derail the ongoing economic recovery.
“It is not only the government’s responsibility to get the economy back on track but of everyone. I request the opposition not to make public comments that will derail the ongoing process. If there is any issue that needs clarity, please speak to us,” he said.
The President made the comments when he wound up the debate on Budget 2025 (Appropriation Bill) in Parliament this evening . In his speech he gave details of measures taken by the government to steady the economy.
“There are signals that the economy is becoming stable. We are treading a very careful path to ensure that the economic recovery continues,” he said.
The President added that while there is a long path to full recovery, the Government has not neglected the people and given relief to the needy. “We have done this within an economy challenges which are still ongoing but we will not neglect the public,”he said.
