All Divisional Secretaries in the Puttalam District have refused to take the COVID-19 vaccine that had been allocated to them.
The 16 Divisional Secretaries in the Puttalam District refused the vaccine yesterday stating they would not take it until field officers working under them, including Grama Niladhari officers are also vaccinated.
They had noted that it was unfair for only Divisional Secretaries to be given the COVID vaccine when frontline officers including Grama Niladhari officers are being overlooked.
They had further noted that plans to only administer the vaccine to Divisional Secretaries would result in conflicts emerging between themselves and field officers, and insisted they would not take the vaccine until all field officers too are vaccinated.
