Representatives of International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement Meet Speaker

A delegation from the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement including representatives from the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS), International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) met with Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, on March 26 at Parliament premises.

The delegation included the Head of the ICRC delegation in Sri Lanka, Ms. Séverine Chappaz, Ms. Ruwanthi Jayasundara, Communications Manager of the ICRC Sri Lanka; Mr. John Entwistle, Head of the South Asia Delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies; and Dr. Mahesh Gunasekara, Director General of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society. Chief of Staff and Deputy Secretary General of the Parliament of Sri Lanka Mr. Chaminda Kularatne was also present at the meeting, Parliament's Department of Communications stated. 

The key focus of the meeting was to discuss organizing a workshop for Members of Parliament to raise awareness about the work of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and explore how the organization can support Sri Lanka's ongoing development efforts.

Additionally, the discussion highlighted Sri Lanka’s new policies aimed at promoting national reconciliation, as well as the political and cultural advancements achieved by the Tenth Parliament.

Speaker Wickramaratne stressed the need for continued collaboration and urged the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement to offer sustained support for Sri Lanka's future development initiatives.
