The post-mortem examination of slain retired Assistant Superintendent of Prisons found the cause of death to be severe injuries suffered to the head due to a gunshot.
The post-mortem examination was conducted by Assistant Judicial Medical Officer of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital Vishadha Perera.
The deceased officer, identified as Siridath Dahmmika (61), was shot dead by unidentified assailants last evening. He had last served at the Boossa Prison. He had been shot by two men who arrived on a motorbike as he was sweeping his garden.
A search of the area by Akmeemana Police led to the discovery of two motorbikes abandoned near the Seethaladola Aranya area. Investigations have revealed that the two motorbikes had been used by the assailants.
Several police teams have been deployed to track down and arrest the assailants.
