A business delegation from Sverdlovsk State of Russian Federation recently paid a courtesy visit to Sri Lanka Board of Investment (BOI) and met BOI Chairman Dinesh Weerakkodi, Director General Renuka M. Weerakoon and other BOI officials.
The purpose of the visit was to enhance foreign direct investment opportunities, attract investment and strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries by promoting Sri Lankan products and services.
This business delegation came to Sri Lanka to participate in the "Russian-Sri Lanka Economic Summit" organized by the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka FCCISL. It will be held from January 23-26, and the Sri Lankan Embassy in Russia has given generous support to this conference.
Headed by Mr. Kozlov Vasily Valerievich, Deputy Governor of the Sverdlovsk regional government, this delegation consists of large-scale industrialists, including investors, and representatives of educational institutions of the region.
In addition, Mr. Yarin Vyacheslar Yurievich, Minister of International Economic Relations of Sverdlovsk State and Mr. Tukanova Elmira Nailvna, Director of the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Development, are also members of this high Russian delegation.
Russia and Sri Lanka have always had a vibrant close relationship. For decades, Russia has acted as one of Sri Lanka's most trusted partners, occupying a special place among friendly states.
Russia is unique to Sri Lanka as the largest buyer of Sri Lankan tea exports in the last few decades and the state that has made the most tourist arrivals in the field of tourism. Russia's enormous contribution to Sri Lankan social and economic development is highly commendable.
