The Supreme Court was informed by the Attorney General department today that Rev. Fr. Cyril Gamini Fernando will not be arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) over the complaint filed against him by the Director of State Intelligence Service (SIS).
The Court was informed by the AG department when the Fundamental Rights (FR) petition filed by Rev, seeking an injunction order preventing him from being arrested by the police was taken up for hearing at the Supreme Court today.
Father Cyril Gamini Fernando, a prominent Catholic Priest who has publicly criticized the failure to conclude investigations into the Easter Sunday attacks had filed the petition claiming an imminent possibility of being arrested by the CID who summoned him last week to record a statement.
The petition was filed after the Criminal Investigations Department had asked the priest to call over to record a statement over the complaint lodged by the Director of the State Intelligence Service (SIS), Major General Suresh Sallay.
Rev. Fr. Cyril Gamini recently taking part in an online discussion had made a statement that the state intelligence units had provided financial and other assistance to Zahran Hashim, who reportedly led the suicide bombers killing himself as well.
Maj Gen Sallay denying the claim had lodged the complaint.
However, the same allegation has been made several times earlier at various forums including in parliament.
