The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) is to announce its stance on the proposed 21st Amendment to the Constitution tomorrow (9).
SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam told Times Online that the party will hold a press conference tomorrow to announce its position on the amendment.
The party will also announce its stance on the proposed clause in the amendment prohibiting dual citizens from holding political office, Mr Kariyawasam stated.
The clause has caused controversy within SLPP ranks since the party's founder and national organiser Basil Rajapaksa is a dual Sri Lankan-US citizen.
Mr Rajapaksa stands to lose his seat in the event the 21st Amendment is adopted with this particular clause intact.
Meanwhile, reports are circulating that Basil Rajapaksa is contemplating resigning from his MP seat before Parliament adopts 21A if it becomes clear that the amendment's proponents have enough numbers to pass it through with a 2/3 majority with the dual citizenship clause intact.
