A 16-year-old school student was killed and five others seriously injured after a tractor trailer overturn at Puthukuduirippu yesterday.
Police Media Unit said a tractor carrying 14 passengers met with the accident last evening near Mungilaru on the Mullaitivu-Paranthan road. The tractor's driver had lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and the trailer to overturn.
Six of those in the tractor suffered serious injuries and were admitted to the Mungilaru Hospital but the 16-year-old boy, a resident of Dharmapuram, succumbed to his injuries.
The passengers had been on their way to participate in a religious festival at a Kovil in Mulliyawalai at the time of the incident. Puthukuduirippu Police are investigating.
