Persons found to be providing false and inaccurate information through the 119 police emergency number will be severely dealt with, Police have warned.
Persons caught spreading misleading information may face imprisonment up to six months, a fine, or both, the Police Media Division said.
The police revealed that the 24-hour police emergency number, 119, receives a substantial volume of messages daily, ranging between 3000 and 3500.
The misuse of this number and the spread of false information that has been observed by the authorities, however, raises concerns about possible hurdles and delays in handling urgent and crucial phone messages.
The police made the decision to issue this announcement in response to these concerns in order to prevent such conduct and keep the emergency hotline functional.
