A 30-year-old man has been shot dead in the Rasanayakapura, Nikaweratiya area of Kurunegala.
The attack was carried out by an unidentified gunman.
He was a father of two who ran a shop and had left home early this morning to open his business when he was shot.
Police reported that family members later discovered him dead from gunshot wounds inside the shop.
This marks the third shooting incident reported in the country within the past 24 hours.
A fatal shooting in Midigama, Matara, early this morning claimed one life and left two others injured, according to the police.
In a separate incident, another shooting occurred last night (18) at a shop on Saranankara Road in the Kohuwala area, where the shop owner succumbed to his injuries after being admitted to Kalubowila Hospital.
Police have also confirmed that a 32-year-old man was found dead from gunshot wounds in Tangalle last night. The body was discovered in a coconut estate.
