Six more members serving in the Jaffna Municipal Council have been sacked from their party – the All Ceylon Tamil Congress (ACTC).
However, since they contested under the of the Tamil National People's Front, they will continue to retain their seats.
The ACTC, led by Gajendra Kumar Ponnambalam, has sacked these members from the party as they have been backing Mr V. Manivannan, a rival member of Mr Ponnambalam.
Mr Manivannan has now been elected as the Mayor for Jaffna.
Earlier four members also were sacked from the party on the same allegation. They have filed action in court seeking an order against their removal from the party.
