Six suspects who attempted to sell a Walampuri valued at about Rs 20 million to a businessman have been taken into custody by the Special Task Force (STF) in Hambantota.
The suspects were taken into custody on a raid conducted by the STF following a tip-off given to intelligence officers at the Hambantota Naval Base.
The six suspects – five men and a woman – are residents of Biyagama, Kaduwela and Katunayake.
The Walampuri, along with the six suspects and the vehicle they travelling in have been handed over to officers of the Hambantota Fisheries Inspector's Office for legal action.
