Social media activist Sepal Amarasinghe has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) a short while ago over alleged controversial comments he made regarding the Sacred Tooth Relic.
The activist was taken into custody from Boralesgamuwa by a CID team following complaints made regarding his comments, police said.
He had made the remarks about the sacred tooth relics over his Youtube channel.
His remarks were referred to in Parliament and some calling that he be arrested and questioned immediately.
Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe told Parliament that it appeared that there was an organized campaign against Buddhism and that Amarasinghe was leading the campaign.
