Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana congratulated the newly elected president Anura Kumara Dissanayake and said that his election was a significant change achieved through the peaceful exercise of the public's mandate.
The Speaker said that the public trust in Mr. Dissanayake is not a fleeting occurrence but the result of a long-standing commitment to parliamentary democracy.
“The challenges ahead are substantial, and while acknowledging the fluctuations in our socio-economic and political landscape, I am confident that the new President possesses the necessary political mandate to navigate this long journey,” he said.
The Secretary General of Parliament, Ms. Kushani Rohanadeera, along with Deputy Secretary General Chaminda Kularatne and Assistant Secretary General Hansa Abeyratne, also conveyed their congratulations to the newly elected President of Sri Lanka.
