Sri Lanka reached closer to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the French Government on establishing a maritime training school in Trincomalee.
The details were discussed by the visiting French Ambassador for the Indo-Pacific Marc Abensour who met with Sri Lanka’s Navy Commander Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera.
Ambassador Abensour told Journalists in Colombo today that discussions were underway on the proposal under which practical training will be provided regarding maritime security.
The training school is set to be set up under the Kotelawala Defence University.
He said that discussions were underway about the modalities of setting up the training school.
The possibility of subsequently allowing students in the region to join is also being considered.
Meanwhile the Navy in a statement said that during the meeting discussions were held on several matters of mutual importance.
The event was also attended by the Military Technical Cooperation Officer in charge of Maritime Safety of the French Embassy in Sri Lanka, Commander Jean–Baptiste Trouche and Naval Assistant to the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Commodore Kosala Warnakulasuriya.
The Navy Commander presented a memento to Ambassador Abensour.
