SriLankan Airlines, one of the few airlines to continue operating flights to Moscow after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, on Monday announced the suspension of operations between Sri Lanka and Moscow “due to operational restrictions that are outside the airline’s control”.
Sri Lanka has maintained a neutral stance in the war between Russia and Ukraine, refusing to condemn Moscow’s action, but urging both parties to resolve difference through dialogue.
A statement from the national carrier said that the restrictions are in the form of international financial and aircraft insurance limits which have been imposed on Russia due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, and directly impact SriLankan Airlines’ flight operations to Russia. Accordingly, SriLankan Airlines will cease operations to Moscow until further notice, it said.
