A string of protests were held in Colombo today (18).
Police fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse a gathering of demonstrators near the Diyatha Uyana at the Parliament Road Junction. The protest had been organized by unemployed graduates over several demands.
Severe traffic congestion was caused in the area due to the agitation.
In the meantime, another protest was held by the Collective of Pensioners’ Association staged a protest spanning over number of demands including a demand that the government pays prompt attention of clearing pension irregularities.
Members of the University Trade Union Alliance also stepped up a protest near the Ministry of Finance seeking remedies to issues over payments and recruitment.
