An Advisory for strong winds and rough seas has been issued by Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre of the Metrology Department.
According to the warning the sea areas off the coasts extending from Kankesanthurai to Puttalam to Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil will be very rough at times with very strong gusty winds up to (60-70) kmph.
The sea areas off the coasts extending from Trincomalee to Kankesanthurai via Mullaitivu and Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle will be rough at times with strong gusty winds up to (50-55) kmph.
Waves heights may increase (about 2.0–2.5 m) in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kalpitiya to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota. Naval and fishing communities are requested to be attentive.
