The government has on Monday decided to make subsidy payments for farmers using chemical fertiliser.
In a media release issued on Monday, Agriculture Ministry Secretary D.M.L.Bandaranayaka stated that the government has decided to provide subsidy payments to farmers using chemical fertiliser. This was said to have been carried out based on repeated requests made by farmers.
The Agrarian Development Department will make the subsidy payments to farmers upon handing over of bills obtained to purchase chemical fertiliser.
However it is unclear how much of the subsidy payment is covered under the subsidy payment scheme. (SD)
