A nine-member Sri Lankan delegation, led by the Attorney General, held discussions with ship-owner interests and their insurers of the X-press pearl ship in Singapore on July 18-19, 2023.
The meeting was organized in response to a request from lawyers following the Government of Sri Lanka's claims action filed in Singapore.
The main focus of the discussions was to assess outstanding interim claims from the Marine Environment Authority and the Ministry of Fisheries. The Sri Lankan delegation received assurances from ship-owner interests' insurers that the assessment would be conducted promptly and efficiently.
The Attorney General emphasized the urgency of concluding wreck decommissioning and debris recovery works within Sri Lankan waters. The insurers of ship-owner interests responded positively, indicating their cooperation in addressing the issue.
