Two persons have been admitted to the Nuwara Eliya District Hospital with injuries sustained in an accident that took place yesterday afternoon (19) in the Haggala area in Nuwara Eliya on the Nuwara Eliya - Badulla main road. As a result, there has been great tension in the region.
A car traveling from Nuwara Eliya to Welimada collided with two pedestrians on the road. The two injured persons have been admitted to the hospital with serious injuries.
Initial investigations by the police revealed that the car had been abandoned on the road and its driver had fled.
Meanwhile, traffic on that road was affected after the accident as large crowds gathered in the area and staged a demonstration for about an hour demanding a speed limit as a solution to a series of accidents at the crash site.
Nuwara Eliya Traffic Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
